It’s not easy to impress top brand managers from big corporates, but members from Absa’s Brand Marketing team, from The Jupiter Drawing Room and from Interbrand were highly impressed with the brand challenge presentations Vega Bordeaux students did this morning ,focusing on the Design Indaba, one of Absa’s major sponsorships. “Vega, you rocked our world! I was extremely impressed with the talent, creative insights and professionalism of all the Vega students. You rock ! ”,remarked Colleen Jackson, Absa’s Brand Manager. Her colleague Anisha Khan just shouted one word : “Mind-blowing”.

Fast Food Advertising Chewed and Swallowed

A Review of The Annual Ad Forum

Tumi Rabanye from Ornico, partner of The Ad Forum, presented a brief overview of the ad industry, highlighting that the fast food industry has proved to be recession proof, with significant growth seen across the sector.

The panel, chaired by Jeremy Maggs and consisting of GSM Quadrant’s Gordon Muller, IHOP’s Musa Kalenga, Yellowwood Future Architects’ Andy Rice and Vega student, Justin Nothling, discussed prominent fast food brands, Chicken Licken, Debonairs, KFC, McDonald’s, Mugg & Bean, Nando’s, Roman’s Pizza, Spur, Steers and Wimpy. The consensus across the panel and the audience was a resounding thumbs down for McDonald’s, Roman’s Pizza and Wimpy’s recent campaigns. None of the brands enjoyed a solid seal of approval among the panelists; however, Spur, Steers, KFC and Nando’s fared best, with Chicken Licken, Debonairs and Mugg & Bean splitting the panel. Audience members showed the strongest support for KFC and Nando’s print campaign.

Vega student Jarryd Kin takes art to a new level-to the food level

There are no boundaries anymore when it comes to the creation of art. This is so clearly demonstrated by Jarryd Kin, who now works with mayonnaise and tomato sauce to create artworks of Michelle Obama and the recent royal wedding. The ex Vega student is so famous now that the Sunday Times ‘Lifestyle Magazine’ have published an article-From mess to Masterpiece- on the 28 August about this most unusual and remarkable initiative.

The Consumer Protection Act Made Easy: What you need to know

“There is only one valid business purpose: to create a customer and retain that customer,” a quote stated at the special Vega guest lecture of the new Consumer Protection Act, implemented as of 1 April this year and presented by Linda Magennis, on Thursday the 4th of August at Vega Bordeaux. We’ve all heard that proverbial quote: “Do not sell your soul to the devil” but after hearing how this new Act affects all of us, start wondering if that isn’t what businesses have been doing until now.

It is very important for both consumers and suppliers to understand the new CPA as it can be successfully utilised to build brands through best practices and show the consumer, the most important aspect of any business, that they are valued and respected. On the other hand, if a supplier or business chooses to ignore the new CPA, there are negative repercussions for brands and business.
